Where Ceylon stands: public status snapshot
A dated snapshot of what the public Development Journal had reported by September 25, 2026 — what was working, what was still in development, and what hasn’t been claimed. Not a roadmap or a promise.
Public status snapshot — as of September 25, 2026.
This page is a dated snapshot of what the public Development Journal had reported by that date. It doesn't add claims the journal hasn't made, and each section links to the dated entry it comes from. It is not a roadmap, and nothing on it is a product promise: plans described for A1 and A1 Alpha are the plans as published on those dates, and they can change. When they do, the journal will say so and this snapshot will be re-dated.
Current phase: A1
Ceylon is in its A1 line: the QEMU-based development and public evaluation line. Everything below runs on the A1 virtual reference machine, not on physical hardware.
A1 Alpha is a checkpoint inside A1, not a miniature of the final system. The published sequence is: A1 Alpha → feedback → fixes → continue A1 → freeze the intended A1 environment → then begin B1 hardware work. (September 25, 2026)
B1 — validated physical hardware — and B2 come later. No hardware, application, driver, graphics, compatibility or performance promises are made for them here.
Working on the reference machine
As reported on September 23, 2026:
- Boots on the newer microkernel foundation, rebuilt and re-booted repeatedly rather than trusted after one run
- Multiprocessor support
- IOMMU
- System controller starts; PCI enumeration works
- USB controller initializes; keyboard input arrives through the virtual USB hardware
- Block storage: devices identified, volumes published, read, write and flush
- Networking on the QEMU reference system: transmit, receive, ARP and basic IPv4
- Display path
- Random-number service
In development
As published on September 23 and September 25, 2026, these were still to be finished and brought together before the A1 proof-of-life release. They are work in progress and published plans, not commitments:
- NuGUI compositor, window management and input qualification — the usable desktop
- User-facing persistence: an application saves something, the machine reboots, and it comes back
- The native terminal and NuDOS command environment; a file manager
- NuBASIC Level 1, moving from specification into implementation, with a simple editor
- Kirk (local service and application coordination): long-duration qualification
- Logging and recovery evidence
- The bounded A1 audio path, and the first audio applications
- Application/runtime integration, image viewing, a constrained video proof, and native interactive demos
- System information and diagnostics
- Packaging it all into a reproducible QEMU release someone else can boot
The A1 Alpha boots under a defined local alpha principal; the full production authentication path is still required for A1 itself. (September 25, 2026)
Not claimed yet
There is no public A1 image yet, and no desktop screenshot yet. When those exist, they'll be linked here and on the Media page with their evidence — not before.
